On 13 May, 1917 AD three Children in Fatima Portugal (Lucia age 10, Francisco age 9, and Jacinta, age 7) received a series of three, amazing visions believed to be from The Virgin Mary. These Children were shown many things including the rise and fall of communism in Russia, possibly the assassination attempt of Pope John Paul 2, the rise of evil, immorality and violence in the world and a global persecution of the Church.
The Third Prophecy was of such a frightening nature, it has remained hidden by The Vatican up to and including today. FEB 2005 AD. In 1984, Pope John Paul II made a comment of the Third Prophecy saying, "The destuction that will come upon the world will be so great, it need not be told and cause terror and panic now." Pope John Paul also mentioned massive tidal waves and fires. In 1941, Sister Lucia wrote a letter (to a bishop) about the Third Prophecy. She speaks of "great fire to come upon the earth." On June 26, 2000, the third part of the secret of Fatima, which was revealed to the three shepherd children at Cova da Iria-Fatima on July 13, 1917, and committed to paper by one of them, Sr. Lucia, on January 3, 1944, was released by the Holy See Press Office, represented by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B., respectively prefect and secretary of the congregation. In his introduction, Archbishop Bertone affirmed that the sealed envelope, containing the message, was initially in the custody of the Bishop of Leiria (Portugal), to be placed in the secret archives of the Holy Office on April 4, 1957. Pope John XXIII in 1959, Pope John XXIII Paul VI in 1965 and John Paul II, before and after the assassination attempt on him in 1981, red it’s content but decided to return the sealed envelope to the Holy Office and not to reveal it.
During the presentation of the interpretation of the third part of Fatima prophecy archbishop Bertone said that Pope John Paul II, on June 7 1981, in the Basilica of St. Mary Major, consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in order to respond to the requests of Our Lady and that this has been repeated in Fatima on May 13, 1982. Finally he indicated that the decision of His Holiness Pope John Paul II to make public the third part of the secret of Fatima brings to an end a period of history marked by tragic human lust for power and evil, yet pervaded by the merciful love of God and the watchful care of the Mother of Jesus and of the Church.
Cardinal Ratzinger, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, explained this view further, stating that in the vision we can recognize the last century as a century of martyrs, a century of suffering and persecution for the Church, a century of World Wars and the many local wars which filled the last fifty years and have inflicted unprecedented forms of cruelty. He said that, as after the attempted assassination on 13 May 1981, the Holy Father explained that he survived because a mother's hand halted the bullet at the threshold of death, the events to which the third part of the secret of Fatima refers now seem part of the past and that this is the consequence of the word of Mary’s heart, which has changed the history of the world bringing the Savoir into it, making the freedom to choose evil no longer has the last word.
Here is the English translation of the published facsimile consisting of some 65 hand-written lines in Portuguese, on four pages, of the third part of the Fatima secret (image is showing first of four pages):
I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.
After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand. Flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire, but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand.
Pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice "Penance, Penance, Penance!". And we saw in an immense light that is God, something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it, a Bishop dressed in White. We had the impression that it was the Holy Father. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork tree with the bark.
Before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way. Having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.
